The ending decades of the twentieth century have been as dramatic in new ideas in science and technolgy as were the dawning years of this century. It seems that progress has no bounds and new ideas and applications in science and technology burst from some unknown source and chart an unpredictable course. Beneath the surface, however, there are trends and patterns that direct the intellectual growth and the direction of scientific and technical achievements. Therefore, if we want to peer into the future we have to take a closer look at current technology and science. To see what is coming in the decades ahead we need to unravel the underlying patterns and cues that direct the course of our intellectual, scientific, and technology endeavors. <To be Continued> |
